‘The Lorax’ remake: Another childhood classic is reborn

“At the far end of town where the Grickle Grass grows and the wind smells slow and sour when it blows, and no birds ever sing, excepting old crows is the street of the lifted Lorax.”

On March 2, 2012 Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment will premiere the highly anticipated remake of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax. The animated film will feature the voices of Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Ed Helms, Betty White, and Danny De Vito. Unlike the original book published in 1971, this story follows a young boy named Ted (Efron) as he goes on a quest to earn the love of his neighbor, Audrey (Swift). The boy lives with his grandmother Norma (White) in a town with artificial trees. After hearing that Audrey yearns to see a real tree, Ted travels to see The Onceler (Helms) because he hears that there he can find out more about real trees. This is the point in which more of the original story is revealed, as the young boy is told the story of The Lorax (De Vito) and why his town is the way it is; basically fake. The movie is only the third to be released under the Illumination Entertainment name, the first two being Despicable Me and Hop. In more trivial information, the names of the characters Ted and Audrey come from Theodor Seuss Geisel (AKA Dr. Seuss) and his second wife Audrey Stone. March 2 will also honor what would be Dr. Seuss’s 108th birthday.
