Volleyball prepares for upcoming season

The varsity volleyball team won in a three set sweep against Monterey on Aug. 23. The Lady Raiders are currently ranked 27 in the state. The team competed in a tournament in Leander, Texas this past weekend with sixty other 5A and 6A schools, placing third in the tournament.

Junior Breuklyn McDaniel seemed very hopeful when asked what’s expected of the girls this year.

“Our major goal for this year is to win state, and to be district champs once again of course,” McDaniel said. “We won’t settle for anything less.”

The Lady Raider’s have worked extremely hard all summer long to get to where they are, and like any other sport, their season never ends. Their typical game week consists of a few games, daily drills and workouts, and 6 on 6 games as well. Senior Kyler Kennedy shared her thought on the workouts.

“They are nowhere near easy but we always make them fun together,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy expressed her excitement for this upcoming year as well, and talked highly of her fellow teammates.

“It is so much fun and everybody brings something good to the team,” Kennedy said. “We all get along.”

Their next home game will take place on September 13th at 7:00 p.m in the west gym against Caprock. This game will be the start of the district series and one step closer to bringing home a district title once again.
