A funeral was held Wednesday in honor of Hereford freshman Joshua Ramirez, 15, after being hit by a discus at a track meet in Plainview March 8.
According to the Hereford ISD statement, Ramirez was stretching when the disc hit him, and was advised by the athletic trainer to keep it iced and report any worsening.
According to the victim’s uncle, Jesse Ramirez, Ramirez went to have a follow exam March 10 and reported that the pain was worsening, and was admitted to the Hereford Regional Medical Center and was placed under intensive care until he died.
Ramirez told the Amarillo Globe-News “We’re not sure exactly what happened.”
