Are you looking for a chilling book to read this fall? Look no further. Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood is a captivating and terrifying true crime novel that will have you hanging on every word.

On November 15, 1959, the respected and well-liked Clutter family of four is brutally murdered, leaving family and friends reeling from shock and confusion. The murder rocks the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, and citizens become paranoid that the same fate may strike their family. One particularly determined man, detective Dewey, becomes completely absorbed in the investigation of the murder, sacrificing his sleep, his health, and even sometimes his family in the name of solving the murder with seemingly no motive and no clues. Detective Dewey and others follow rabbit trails of leads that end up nowhere. They conduct interviews and drive for miles in search of a breakthrough that will solve the uncrackable case. While Capote follows the investigation, he also follows two ex-convicts who are on the road writing hot checks, hitching rides, meeting girls, and most importantly trying to get as far away as possible from Holcomb, Kansas.

Although I do not typically turn to mystery/crime books, I decided to read In Cold Blood after hearing good things about it from my teachers and classmates and was pleasantly surprised. So, even if you are not normally interested in this genre, Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood will appeal to any reader who enjoys suspense, twists and turns, and a memorable story that will leave you wanting more.
