New Video Game Sheds Light on Humanity

What exactly is being human? Breathing? A heart beating? In the new game, Detroit: Become Human, that question is answered.

In a futuristic world where human-like robots exist, the game follows a girl robot named Kara. The game focuses on her life and her struggles because unlike other robots, she feels emotions. She recognizes the fact that she can make decisions or choices.

In the first trailer from Paris Games Week, it showed Kara in an abusive home with a father and a junior daughter. This caused controversy because people thought the game was endorsing child abuse when really, the purpose was only trying to showcase all the choices humans can make.

The point of Detroit: Become Human is to show what makes us human through conflict, abuse, decisions, and love. The fact that we are allowed to make choices explains why we are human and robots are not. The game also considers what could happen if robots had feelings or human-like features. The repercussions from it could be enormous. As we reach a day in age where robots exist, people don’t take into fact the consequences of making them.
