Benefits of sleep

Sleep banishes under eye circles helps you feel better and puts you in a better mood, but it also has a few other benefits that many may not have thought of. Sleep is an important part of having and keeping up a healthy lifestyle: it can benefit your heart, mind, and weight. Chronic lack of sleep increases the risk for developing obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and infections. Here are 5 of the many benefits that sleep can have:

  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep can affect your life span. Getting too much or too little is associated with a shorter life. Sleep also affects quality of life; it causes enjoyment and appreciation of things more or less depending on amount of sleep.
  • Sleeping can increase creativity, in addition to making your memories stronger, your brain will reorganize and reconstruct them while you are sleeping which can result in an increase of creativity.
  • Kids and teens that lack in sleep will have a harder time focusing and paying attention in school. Studies show that college student that didn’t get enough sleep had worse grades than those who did.
  • When it comes to our health stress and sleep are nearly one and the same — and both can affect cardiovascular health. Studies show that those who get adequate sleep will have improved blood pressure, lower stomach fats and cholesterol and sugar levels.
  • Sleeping well means more to our overall well-being than simply avoiding irritability. If you think the long hours put in during the week are the cause of your anxiety or impatience, sleep cannot necessarily be made up during the weekend. Sleeping on the weekends is not enough; you need to keep a healthy balance.

In the past, sleep was ignored by many doctors and surrounded by many myths. Now we are beginning to see the affects that sleep has on our overall well being and the important factor that sleep plays in a healthy life.
