Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a young adult fiction book written by author Jesse Andrews.
The book follows the main character, Greg Gaines. He is in his senior year of high school and enjoys making films with his coworker Earl. However, no one is allowed to watch them.
Greg’s life completely changes when his mom forces him to hang out with a dying girl.
Rachel Kushner has acute myelogenous leukemia. Rachel is one of Greg’s childhood friends. At first he doesn’t want to spend time with her, but slowly as time passes they develop a friendship.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is not like most books with teenage cancer patients. For a book about a dying girl, it was surprising funny. The author gave uniqueness to this book I haven’t seen before. There is no love story involved, and it’s not overly depressing, like The Fault in Our Stars. This book is about friendship and how someone can change your life even when you don’t want them too.
Greg is constantly making fun of himself and has a cynical sense of humor. It has a great mix of humor and drama. This book is definitely a good read.
