Sixth Street Massacre Review
Clowns, Beetlejuice, and ghosts. These things would spook anyone in their right mind, and these things can be found at 6th Street Massacre’s Haunted House.
Despite that, I headed over to the historic route 66 district and purchased my $20 ticket. Upon arrival, the place gave me shivers. It could have been the abundance of cob webs and zombies, or the fact that the owner claims the building is actually haunted.
Located at 3015 SW 6th Avenue, 6th Street Massacre is housed in an old movie theater that was built in the 1920s. After a haunt employee reported unexplained events happening such as doors slamming shut, alarms triggering, and hair getting pulled, the building was featured on A&E’s “My Ghost Story” in June 2012. During the episode, ghost investigators claim to find 21 counts of paranormal activity.
The episode has since stirred a big crowd for 6th Street Massacre, but this year, the owner is hoping to capitalizing on the building’s theater history as well. The theme is “stuck in a movie” where visitors experience scenes such as a box office, snack bar and theater. Other scenes are loosely based off of classic horror movies such as Silent Hill, House of 1,000 Corpses and Sinister.
6th Street Massacre is open every Friday and Saturday night in October from 7 p.m. to midnight. Coupons are available to those who text “haunt” to 64600.
When I went, the wait was short and we went through many rooms which had different things that made the experience terrifying. I passed through a small door guarded by a bloody clown, an outdoor walkway where zombie children crept up behind me, and one recurring feature of this place was bloody stinking clowns!
With the new movie release of “It,” the timing of this theme couldn’t have been any better. Scenes from the movie remained all too fresh in my mind as a I passed from room to room of the haunt, greeted by little girls or silent men dressed to the nines in clown costumes.
All around, 6th Street Massacre’s Haunted House was great and left me with nightmares for days.
