Each year Olympic medals are different but still acknowledges the same tradition of the gods as the original games on Mount Olympia. This year, the medal is different, representing the traditions and culture of their host nation and designed to feel like tree trunks.

In addition to the new medals, the torch is also different this year. According to the official Olympics website, this year the torch uniform cap is meant to represent the spirit of sports, which connects everyone around the world.

Of course, the Winter Olympics has a smaller selection of sports than the summer Olympics. The three most popular sports to watch are figure skating, skiing, and snowboarding. The athletes in the Olympics are watched constantly, and with this attention comes drama.

Ashley Wagner, a national figure skater and winner of the silver medal, was furious when she learned she would not be on the team. Judges of the Olympics exposed them to systematically  doping their athletes. While in Korea, North Korea has just recently agreed to send their athletes to South Korea. The tension between the two countries continues to rise this year.

This winter Olympics will be a very exciting one, with drama and many athletes wanting the gold. There will be a lot of anger and mixed emotions. The Winter Olympics opening ceremony will premiere live on Feb. 8.
