2017 Albums Nominated for Grammy Awards

The 60th Grammy awards will be held Jan. 28 on CBS. The awards will honor achievements in the music industry for the music of 2017. The nominees for Album of the Year are “Awaken, My Love!” by Childish Gambino, “4:44” by Jay-Z, “DAMN.” by Kendrick Lamar, “Melodrama” by Lorde, and “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars.

Childish Gambino released his R&B album “Awaken, My Love!” on Dec. 2, 2016. This is his 3rd studio album. Some songs from the album are “California,” “Zombies,” “Riot,” “Stand Tall,” and “Redbone.” The album received two Grammy nominations.

“DAMN.” was released by Kendrick Lamar on April 14 and is his fourth studio album. It is classified in the Hip-Hop Genre and includes the songs “HUMBLE,” “FEAR,” “DUCKWORTH,” “BLOOD,” and more. “DAMN.” is nominated for five Grammys.

Jay-Z released his thirteenth solo album, “4:44,” on June 30. The album includes songs such as “Moonlight,” “4:44,” “Family Feud,” “Bam,” and “The Story of O.J.” The album is Jay-Z’s response to Beyonce’s “Lemonade” in which she accused him of cheating. The hip-hop album is nominated for eight Grammys.

On June 16, Lorde’s second studio album, “Melodrama,” was released. It includes the songs “Green Light,” “Writer in the Dark,” “Supercut,” “Liability,” and “The Louvre.” The album is in the electropop genre and nominated for one Grammy.

“24K Magic” was released on Nov. 18, 2016 by Bruno Mars and was his third studio album. The album is part of the Funk, Contemporary R&B genre and includes the songs “Too Good to Say Goodbye,” “Perm,” “24K Magic,” “Finesse,” and “Straight Up & Down.” Bruno Mars received six Grammy Nominations for this album.
