UIL has selected two Canyon ISD coaches as National Federation Coaches Association State Coaches of the Year. Canyon High School coach Ray Baca has been selected as the NFCA State Coach of the Year in the area of girls’ cross country and Randall High School coach David Quirino was selected as the NFCA State Coach of the Year in wrestling.
As a result, both coaches are automatically nominated for sectional coach of the year and will be considered along with other coaches in their section for this honor. States included along with Texas competing for sectional honors are Arkansas, New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma. Sectional winners will be nominated for national coach of the year.
