Due to a shortage of entries, the board of the Putnam City Marching Classic cancelled their annual marching contest that was scheduled for Sept. 22.
“I feel a little sad and disappointed that we don’t get to go,” junior Maddison Maness said. “That was the competition that a lot of people looked forward to, and one of the most fun days during marching season.”
The disappointment spread throughout many members of the band.
“I was shocked and upset it would not take place,” senior and head drum major Jonathan Wilhelm said. “I feel I am missing out on one of my favorite traditions for my senior year and am still upset.”
No matter how members of the band feel, they still have other competitions to look forward to.
“Putnam may be cancelled, but that doesn’t mean the band still isn’t working hard,” Maness said. “Putnam wasn’t the only thing we worked for; it is being the best we can be no matter who the judges are or where we are.”
Even though Putnam cancelled this year, there is still one important thing that will stand high above all the disappointment.
“If the Putnam contest fails to continue in the future, the Randall High School marching band will go down as the last champion of the contest,” Wilhelm said.
