On Nov 15-18, 2012, journalism students Jenny Marshall, Shea Johnson, Audrey Roberson and Elizabeth Innis and participated in journalism events at an annual convention in San Antonio provided by the Journalism Educators Association and National Scholastic Press Association. All of these students went on to win awards in competitions.
In ranking, the top 30 percent of entries at the convention received one of three ratings: superior, excellent or honorable mention. Jenny Marshall received an excellent rating in yearbook copy editing, Shea Johnson received an excellent rating in sports writing, Audrey Roberson received honorable mention in review writing and Elizabeth Innis received honorable mention in feature writing.
According to a district news release, there were more than 1700 journalism students in attendance from across the country.
