Dust storm blows in, games cancelled
Like in incoming wave, blowing dirt engulfed Amarillo yesterday afternoon leaving track members and softball players in its dust.
The wind and dirt, coming from Colorado and Kansas, hit the Amarillo area shortly after 3 p.m. causing softball games scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to be cancelled. The weather service warned drivers to stay off the roads as a result of high winds and low visibility. Social media sites lit up with photos of the dirt-covered sky and posts such as, “Another Dust Bowl?” and “Why oh why do we live here?”
