U.S. Elects New President
I think that everyone can agree that this election has been one of the craziest elections in American history. Between all of the scandals and vicious personal attacks, this election will be one for the books. The whole country was watching last night as votes poured in and people across the nation held their breath and awaited the results.
At the beginning of the night, the lead seemed to flip between Clinton and Trump, but as the night went on, Trump’s lead increased. Many swing states, such as Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina were predicted to go to Clinton, but actually went to Trump, which put him ahead even more. When Trump was named the winner in the early hours of Wednesday morning, people were shocked, as this was not the outcome that was predicted.
270 electoral votes were needed to win the presidency and Trump won the electoral vote 279 to 228. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by a slim margin but the republican party won the presidency as well as the house and senate. Obama will serve for the next two months and Donald Trump will be sworn into office in January of 2017.
Clinton gave her concession speech Wednesday morning, saying, “This is not the outcome that we wanted and we worked so hard for, and I am sorry that we did not win this election.”
Donald Trump gave his victory speech saying that, “Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division; have to get together. To all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.”
So, whether you supported Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump or whether the outcome of this election is what you wanted or not, it is time for America to swear in a new president who will serve for the next four years.
