Students plan for fall break

Canyon ISD had a shorter summer this year with school starting Aug. 16. This allows students to have a fall break Oct. 5 through Oct. 9. Fall break gives students time to travel, spend time with their family and friends or relax at home.

“My family and I are going to be hosting a booth at Oktoberfest,” freshman Rylee Cherne said. “My parents make and sell wooden signs.”

Oktoberfest is a festival held in Red River, New Mexico. The festival includes German food and music, games and contests, and activities for families.

“I am going to pick pumpkins and carve them with my family over fall break,” senior Kami Velarde said. “It is a fun little tradition that my family does each year at the beginning of autumn.”

Freshman Grady Hodge said he will be going to New Mexico for Family Camp.

“(Family Camp) is a church camp you go to with your family,” Hodge said. “You can play paintball, do a chop course and do some shotgun shooting.”

Senior Chantha Le said her family will be taking a road trip towards Austin during fall break.

“We’re going to look at UT (The University of Texas at Austin) and meet with some family I have down there,” Le said. “We’ll also probably explore the city too.”

Le said she will likely visit Texas A&M in College Station as well.

“I’m considering going to UT or A&M for college,” Le said. “We also just generally enjoy Austin and want to get away from home since we have a break.”
