Defending state champion wrestler Jace Bennett signed a national letter of intent to attend Cornell University last week.
“It was nice to finally sign because it took the pressure off of me,” Bennett said. “Now I can just focus on wrestling.”
Cornell is known primarily for its high academic standards, but the University is also among the best wrestling programs in America. Since Cornell is an Ivy League school, it does not offer athletic scholarships, but Bennett will get an academic scholarship to the university. Bennett was also offered a full-ride scholarship from the University of Oklahoma, but ultimately chose Cornell.
“I chose Cornell because the academics and wrestling is top three in the nation,” Bennett said.
Bennett won the 4A state championship last year in the 160-pound weight division. This year Bennett is 23-0 in the 189 division and is in position to make another run at the state title.
