The Lady Raiders took an unexpected win against the Lady Dons on Feb. 9, earning the team a 16-10 record and a tie with Palo Duro in district, 9-3.
The Lady Dons took the upper hand in the beginning of the game, with 15-4 in the first quarter and 23-19 at halftime. In the third quarter though, the Lady Raiders shot back, taking the lead with 30-28 and finishing the game 44-41.
Junior guard Jade Cordova led Lady Raiders with 14 shots, followed closely by Aubrie Hernandez with 12. An additional 10 were made by senior Kirrie Guzman.
Sophomore guard Haley Girard said that winning the game was in large part due to the desire of the team.
“Our defense stepped up,” Girard said. “We wanted to win so bad in our hearts.”
The Lady Raiders will head into bi-district playoffs against Pampa.
