The first official BCS standings were released for week 8 of NCAA football. Many teams were expected to be in the top 25; however, a few schools snuck in unexpectedly.
The defending national champions, Alabama, are currently ranked number 1, with a record of 6-0. Florida is currently ranked 2nd, and South Carolina is ranked 7th. This could change however, when the two teams face off this weekend. The SEC managed to capture 4 of the top 7 spots.
West Virginia was knocked back to 17th after a 49-14 loss to #18 Texas Tech. Notre Dame is currently 5th with a 6-0 record, despite being ranked 23rd in ESPN’s pre-season rankings.
Surprise teams in the rankings are Rutgers, Cincinnati, and Iowa State. Oregon State also came in much higher than expected by most pre-season ranks.
The current ranks are bound to change quite a bit before the year is over, and these teams will fight to improve their rankings as the season heads into week 8.
