Tennis team receives new facility
Last night, the varsity tennis team defeated the Hereford Whitefaces 19-0. The team is undefeated for the preseason, with a record of 13-0, and will have their second district match against Caprock on Saturday, Sept. 12. The match will be at Caprock High School at 9:00 am. The state rankings were released this past week, and the Randall High varsity tennis team is now ranked number six in the state for team tennis.
Varsity has been practicing every day after school to prepare for district. Two-a-days started a couple of weeks before school began, along with the team’s preseason.
The tennis program is receiving a new tennis facility on campus. The tennis courts are set to be done by Sept. 15, with locker rooms to be done in a couple of weeks. The new tennis courts will benefit Randall because the team will now have eight courts rather than six, which makes for quicker match play and a nicer facility.
The old courts that are in between the east and west buildings will not be torn down, as the team will keep those for practices and some JV matches. The new locker rooms will also benefit because all players won’t be crammed into a small portable when changing for practice. The courts will be lighted, that way the team can continue playing matches when the sun sets, instead of having to find a new facility with lighted courts (such as Amarillo High) to move to when it gets dark. The new facility will also have two large onings and two small onings to provide shade for the parents and fans who come to watch the team play.
