When UIL announced new football alignments earlier this month, almost all high schools in Texas got realigned in a new district or reclassified.

Schools in the Amarillo area mostly got realigned, Amarillo High staying at 5A division I and Tascosa staying at 6A. On the bigger news of realignment, Canyon High moved down a division, being at 4A division I. Dumas and Hereford also moved down a division to 4A, All three schools will now be in the same district as Pampa.

As for Randall, we moved down a division to 5A division II, being in the same district as Abilene Wylie and Lubbock Cooper.

The cut-offs for each division has also changed.The cut off for 4A ends at 1,149 students and starts at 789 students. While the difference between a 5A division I school and a 4A division I school is huge. The lowest you can be in 5A is 1,150 and the largest 2,189. The largest school in Texas is Allen high school, standing at 6,664 students.

Randall will have a lot of traveling to do for the 2018 football season. Many people want Randall to be a 5A division I, but we are just under the cut-off for division I.
