The 5A UIL State Wrestling tournament took place last week at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas. Both the Raider boys and the Lady Raider varsity teams competed at this statewide competition where they competed against some of the top teams in the state. The Raider boys were ranked four out of the 77 5A teams at the meet, and finished with an overall score of 71.5. Senior Xavier Torres won another state championship title as he got first place in his 126 lbs weight class, as well as Junior Johnathan Ortegon in his 120 lbs weight class. Sophomore Jadyn Heaton also got 5th place in his 132 lbs weight class. The Lady Raiders left the tournament being ranked second out of 79 5A teams with a final score of 78.0. Junior Ado Ornelas won fourth place, Junior Skye Bravo got 3rd place as well as Senior Jade Larsen. The ladies also had Junior Lily Mills place 2nd in her weight class, making her a State runner up.
