The Randall Tennis Team went down to Canyon and played the Eagles on their home courts on Aug. 27 and took over with a 17-2 win, giving Canyon their first district loss.
“It was a great high school match and a lot of fun,” Coach John Stephens said.
There were a few close matches that resulted in tiebreakers, two of which the Raiders lost. The Canyon boys gave the tennis team the most trouble. Freshmen Jensen Betzen and junior Keaton Daniels were the singles boys who went to a tiebreaker with the Eagles, both coming out on top.
“I was thinking of all the things that happened to us and that kept me motivated to go out and win,” Daniels said.
Seniors Dax Betzen and Orlando Ingersoll faced Austin Schoenenberger and Bradley Enriquez and lost in a tiebreaker, and so did our mixed team, Daniels and Jazzy Phillips.
“I was disappointed in myself because I knew I could do better,” Phillips said.
Next time, Randall will face an even harder version of Canyon, but the Raider Tennis Team is just as ready to face them again.
