The Randall High School volleyball team has started their season with a 12-10 record, playing multiple 5A and 6A schools. After losing their MVP, Jordan Gove, senior Sidney Soria is stepping up and taking the role of leading the team. The following was an interview with Soria.
Q: How do you feel about this year’s season?
A: I am very excited to see how much my team will grow and to see how successful we can be.
Q: Previously, the Randall volleyball team went to state back to back, can it happen again?
A: Yes, I believe it can happen again because we are determined, and we all have the same goal to go back to state and win it.
Q: How are you preparing for district coming soon?
A: We work hard every day in practice and want to continue to get better to reach our end goal of winning district.
Q: How do you feel about getting a new coach?
A: Change isn’t always a bad thing, and the connection my new coach and I have built is getting stronger. I’m very excited to see where she can take our program.
Q: Has having a new coach affected your game?
A: No, it has just been an adjustment, and having my team to lean on and have my back makes my play improve every day.
Q: How do you feel a new coach can make this team better than the previous years?
A: This new coach is here to push us and to continue making this a winning program and she is doing a good job.
Q: How do you feel you can lead your team?
A: I think I can continue to encourage and hold everyone accountable when needed and continue to trust and connect with my teammates.
Q: Are you shooting for MVP this year?
A: Yes, I am.
Q: Did you always want to play volleyball?
A: Yes, volleyball is my passion and I have always played it, so it has always been a part of my life.
Q: What do you want younger girls to know about Randall volleyball?
A: I want younger girls to know that when you enter Randall volleyball it is a family and everyone will have your back. It will be a fun journey with ups and downs, but you will enjoy every moment of it with the sisters you build along the way.
