The golf season has begun, and senior Jack Lankford and Coach Ben Gilliland are planning on leading the team to another state title and bringing home the gold.
Jack said that they have district pretty secure, all they need is to keep their composure and not let their guard down.
“It really comes down to regionals where 3 teams make it out,” Lankford said. “We will most likely be facing teams such as Bridgeport, Andrews, and Lubbock Cooper Liberty which are solid teams with good depth.”
Lankford also said that they have a driving factor pushing them to be ready for the district and regional tournaments. The golf team wants to make something special happen by going to state and winning another title.
Lankford said that with these long days, a large amount of mental fortitude and preparation is required when performing on the course.
“You got to control your controllables,” Lankford said, a controllable being anything you can dictate on the course. “You can control what club you pick, you can control where you aim, but you can’t control where that ball goes when it’s in the air.”
Coach Gilliland has already helped to lead his team to state two years ago, and he plans to do so again with the help of his players.
“A good thing about this year is that we know where we stand,” Gilliland said. “We are very much a skilled team and we need to worry about what we can control. If we focus on preparing and our controllables, may the best man win.”
The Randall Raider golf team is ready to fight and get those matches under their belt, so they can be prepared for district and regionals, and possibly another state run.
