The sound of chattering tweens was all that could be heard as Westover Junior High students waited for their parents to pick them up.  An English teacher, Mrs. Abernathy, noticed two of her students, both with the same shoulder length brown hair and with the same brown eyes.  “Are you two sisters?” She asked.  The sisters glanced at each other, trying to conceal their annoyed looks before answering the question they were asked so often by nodding their heads.  In fact, they were twins.

The chances of a woman having more than one baby are increasing throughout the years. There is a 3% chance that a woman will have twins.  Fraternal twins have a 1 in 17 chance of having another set of twins.

                “Having a twin is all that I’ve ever know,” Sera said.  “I don’t know any way different.”

                Juniors Sera and Allison Hill are fraternal twins.  Both said having such a similar sibling wasn’t every a bad thing because they don’t know what it would be like any other way.

                “It’s pretty cool to go to the same school as Allison because I never have to worry about being alone at lunch or anything,” Sera said.

                Allison said they are pretty tight.  They can always talk to each other about things they don’t usually tell anyone else.  However, even though the two get along well, they have many distinct differences.

                “We like the same music and read a lot of the same books,” Allison said. “But Sera has more of an ‘I don’t care’ attitude about life while I’m more emotional.”

                Sera said Allison gets worked up about things easily and is more aware of what people think.  Sera is more laid-back and mellow.

                “I’m the kind of person that goes with the flow,” Sera said. “Whatever happens, happens.”

                The fraternal twins look similar, but not exactly alike.  Both have a similar style in clothes, same hair color and the same eye color.

                “People don’t confuse us as much as they did when we were younger,” Sera said. “Thankfully.”

                Recent studies show how certain twins are able to think exactly alike, almost like ESP.  Some twins can even feel pain when the other is feeling pain, even if only one is actually being hurt.

                “We don’t think alike just a whole lot,” Allison said. “It does happen at random times.  One time, we were talking about movies and we said the exact same quote at the exact same time.  It’s just things like that.”

                Both Sera and Allison are musically talented.  However, they vary in artistic ability.

                “We like the same kind of style artistically,” Sera said. “Except she can draw and I can’t.”

                Through their many differences, the similarities that they share have brought them closer than many other siblings.

                “We’re really close,” Allison said. “We’re more than just sisters. We’re twins.”
