Some would say that the word “brother” means much more than a short amount of words typed in a dictionary. They would say it is the definition of inspiration and example, and that the real secret to life lies in selfless and abundant unconditional love. It reveals genuine humility and camaraderie. It could be that brotherhood is defined when one sees their true reflection in the mirror of their brother and it being a pure expression of truth, strength, and passion. “[My brother, Trason, is] my role model,” Tucker Carver says as he relaxes against the cool wall of lockers.
Tucker Carver is the youngest of six brothers in his family with his brother, Trason Carver, being the second youngest. Trason, who graduated last year, will leave Oct. 20 to Tirana, Albania for a two year mission trip. Albania is a country located next to Greece and Macedonia on the European continent. Though Tucker has seen all other four of his brothers set off on similar two year trips to different places around the world, he explains that seeing Trason go is different.
“I’ve bonded with Trason more than any other of my brothers,” Tucker said. “I am proud to see him leave because I know that’s what he wants to do.”
Tucker said he will miss Trason, but that two years isn’t long and it will go by quickly. They are never allowed to call but are able to e-mail one another back and forth, and Tucker explained how Trason leaving will affect him as his brother.
“It will be very quiet [when he leaves],” Tucker said. “I will just try to live in the moment every time I see him. His leaving will encourage me more to look forward to my mission when I go.”
Tucker mentions how school won’t be that different without Trason because they only went to the same school for one year. However, he explains Trason’s character and how he hopes to follow Trason’s example that he set at Randall High School. He also reflects on one of his favorite memories with Trason which was hosting the 2010 Talent Show together in which he said he learned a lot about his brother that he never knew. “He was a really good example,” Tucker said. “[Trason] was a leader and was nice to everyone. He thought of everyone before himself. He was a good person [and] I am very lucky and thankful to follow in his footsteps.”
Not only will Tucker follow in Trason’s footsteps through the halls of Randall High, but beyond that. Tucker plans to go on a mission trip as well when he turns 19. Until then, he takes something special and sincere from his brother’s leaving.
“[Trason] has set a good path for me and I appreciate it a lot,” Tucker said. “Fulfill your duties and follow your dreams. If you’re going to do something finish it and don’t live with regrets.”
