The movement started in 2006 when Jamie Twoorkowski was just a man lending a hand to a troubled friend. Today through the hope and dedication of Tworkowski and friends, To Write Love On Her Arms has become a thriving non profit organization. TWLOHA is an organization that exists toinspire and heal the broken lives of people struggling with depression, addiction and self-injury. Their goal is “to serve as a bridge to help.”
Merchandise is used to spread the word about TWLOHA. Products are sold, here in Amarillo, at Hot Topic and Zumiez. Awareness is important for every independent company but wearing the shirts isn’t the only way to join the movement. Donations of any amount can be made at https://www.stayclassy.org/checkout/donationand and are “invested directly into treatment and recovery” for those in need.
Active TWLOHA members and aides, such as licensed mental health professionals, travel to colleges around the country to speak publically. Their website, www.twloha.com, hosts an online strore but their main focus is not to make money. The site includes the numbers to several suicide prevention hotlines, as well as an informative page on self-har, and depression in general. Members of the To Write Love On Her Arms community believe that “life is worth fighting for, that it’s possibe to change” and that “we were never meant to do life alone.”
