Sophomore, Sheldon Johnson won the free iPad at the PTSA (parent, teacher, and student association) meeting Sept 17.
Unlike the prior annual PTSA meetings any parents who attended were eligible to enter into a drawing for an iPad. PTSA sponsor, Samanta Usnick awarded Johnson with the iPad that night.
“I felt shocked and thrilled,” Johnson said. “I never thought I would really win, but then they called my name.”
Usnick said the purpose of the iPad drawing was to attract more parents to the meetings.
“It seems like once students reach high school, their parents disappear off the radar,” Usnick said. “I understand why they would do that but high school is when students need the most attention.”
Many students received attention that night. Teachers like Usnick and English teacher, something Fine reported a better turnout of parents and students than past years.
“I had parents out the door,” Usnick said. “I almost didn’t have enough time for them.”
Because of the iPad drawing, the PSTA meeting was successful. Johnson also said he’ll be at the next one.
“Of course I’ll come again,” Johnson said. “Not only was it cool winning the iPad but it was nice to get a tardy pass and see my teachers.”
