Sophomore wins pageant title
Sophomore Mitzy Gonzales competed in the Miss Amarillo Teen Latina pageant this past March and took first place winning the title ‘Miss Amarillo Teen Latina’. She will be competing again on June 22nd for the Miss Texas Teen Latina title.
The Miss Amarillo Teen Latina pageant is an event that calls all young Latina women to showcase their talent and beauty to win the overall title. It took place on March 16 at the Globe News Center for the Preforming Arts.
“Before the day of the pageant we took several classes like speech, make-up, etiquette, dance, and others,” Gonzales said. “The queen is chosen not just for exterior beauty, but for her skills, inside beauty, pageant walk, posture, service, respect, attitude, and other things.”
The pageant had different rounds, five made semi-finals, and two made finals. Gonzales said the moment of crowning made her life change in all aspects.
“[When] I heard my name in the microphone I was so happy and thankful with God for giving me this incredible chance,” Gonzales said. “[My life] is different now because now people see [me] as an official role model, so [I] need to be [one] and be the best version of [myself].”
Gonzales was only planning on staying in Amarillo for a year past her arrival (August 2013) from Mexico.
“This title opens doors and opportunities to improve myself so my plans are changing,” Gonzales said. “We are getting ready physically and mentally to reach the [Miss Texas Teen Latina] crown!”
