The New Trend: Girls asking Boys to Homecoming
This week, students attempted to find dates to shower with a mum or garter. Asking out your crush isn’t the hard part, it is how you attempt to ask them. With posters and flowers and even a new pair of shoes, asking is advancing, and the old tradition of the guy having to ask out the girl has become a thing of the past.
“Just because a guy is supposed to ask out the girl, it doesn’t mean the girl doesn’t have the right to,” junior Jarrett Schaef said. “I don’t see why it’s wrong (for a girl to ask a guy out). Even if it is tradition, traditions are made to be changed.”
Girls, such as Senior Bonnie Bell, agreed that times have changed and that girls no longer have to just sit back and wait for the next prince charming to come along.
“Girls should be able to ask the boys out,” Bell said. “Social constructs are meant to be deconstructed. Tear down expectations.”
