Not many students know about The Neighborhood. It is a student-run club that allows students and teachers to share their testimonies and hear about other people’s walk with faith.
Every Thursday during flex students gather in Ms. Shipley’s classroom, Room 208, for donuts and scripture.
What is The Neighborhood?
“The Neighborhood is a place where anyone is welcome and where students share their faith testimonies about what God has done in their lives,” sophomore Jazzy Phillips said. “I feel so reassured to be in a place where everyone is trying to learn about Christ and grow with Christ just like I am.”
How Do I Join?
Everyone is welcome to come to the meetings and share their relationships with God in a judgment-free space. If you’re interested in being a leader for The Neighborhood you can talk to Ms. Shipley. A leader promotes the club and leads prayer at the beginning of the meeting.
Why is The Neighborhood Important?
“It is important to have The Neighborhood in high school because students get to look to each other for guidance and understanding as they go through similar life phases together,” English teacher Ms. Nash said.
The Neighborhood brings teenagers together and gives students a safe place to talk to their peers about their faith.
“The guest speakers preach their stories of their struggles and how they overcame them,” sophomore Sawyer Eason said. “The community that surrounds The Neighborhood is filled with kind and caring people who want to grow in their faith with you.”
What Do You Get Out of a Meeting?
“Every time I get something new from the messages,” junior Gabby Dishong said. “I love students and teachers have the option to share testimonies and messages. The Neighborhood is for the people at our school to find community in their faith and allow people we see every day to share what God’s put on their hearts, and it’s truly a blessing. I’ve learned so much about the people I see every day and love seeing the wonderful ways God moves through them.”
