Lyzeth Nieves, Freshman

“I definitely love music,” freshman Lyzeth Nieves said. “From a young age, I really enjoyed playing instruments. The first instrument I tried was the violin, which failed. So, I tried guitar and that opened my love up for other instruments. This lead me to try and play the ukulele and bass guitar, which is what I’m play now. I love playing and listening to music. It’s a really freeing experience for me. I can let it all out, especially on the bass guitar. The bass guitar is definitely my favorite. I love it because it’s the loudest, so it really lets everything out. I really enjoy playing it without an amp most of the time because it gives a really raw sound. It doesn’t have any of that bass boost. The bass guitar is definitely the harshest one. When you strum it, it really hurts your fingers. You can’t really play it for more than 15 minutes before it feels like it’s rubbing your skin raw and I think that’s what I enjoy most about the instrument. That really transitions into what music I listen to because even though I listen to all different kinds of genres, I definitely get more hooked on songs that are more genuine. I think it’s songs like that that really got me into music and playing instruments.”
