Each year, the yearbook is critiqued by judges at both the state and national level. Results from the 2010- 2011 yearbook were recently released giving Randall’s book top ratings.
State Competition: ILPC, the journalism arm of UIL, rates yearbooks in 14 different categories with “distinguished merit” being the top honor. Randall’s book was rated “distinguished merit” in all 14 categories. In addition, this book has been nominated for a state star award. Star awards will be announced in May. Only approximately 35 schools in the state will receive a star award. The RHS yearbook received a star award in 2009- 2010.
National Competition: The Columbia Press Association rates yearbooks according to medals: bronze, silver and gold. Columbia awarded the RHS book gold. Out of a possible 1000 points, the RHS book was awarded 908. The book will continue on in competition and will find out later this year if it will be awarded a National Crown Award. Only a few books in the nation are awarded a Crown each year.
