Varsity Football Team Looks Past Hereford Loss, Defeats Amarillo High
Coming off of a 0-27 loss to Hereford last week, the 0-3 Raiders were desperate for a win when they took the field against the 3-0 Amarillo High Sandies tonight. Both teams remained scoreless at the end of the first quarter. With approximately 10 minutes remaining in the second, the Raiders were the first to record a touchdown, earning 6 points on the board. Four minutes later, the Sandies answered back with a 23 yard field goal. However, the Raiders weren’t ready to give away their lead just yet. One play later, the Raiders scored again, this time earning the extra point. At half, Randall led 13-3.
Quarterback senior Landen Nix came into the third quarter blazing, stretching across the goal-line for an early touchdown, and with 3 minutes left in the quarter, Randall scored again, gained the extra point, and increased their lead 26-3.
Early in the fourth quarter, Amarillo High stole the momentum scoring back-to-back touchdowns and recovering a Randall turnover. With 9 minutes left in the ballgame, the Raiders were clinging on to a 26-16 lead, when Amarillo High quarterback Bo Barker went down with an injury that took him out of the game. The Sandie momentum halted, and the game ended with Randall recording the win, 26-16.
Next Friday, the Raiders will take on the Frenship Tigers at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. This will be the last pre-conference game for the Raiders before they take on Wichita Falls High Oct. 11 in their first district match of the year.
