Student Body To Receive Extended Lunches If Attendance Goal Is Met
Randall’s highest attendance rate recorded was 98% in 2021. However, since COVID, Principal Steven Singleton said there has been a decline. Last year, the attendance rate dipped below 96% for the first time in many years. Singleton’s goal is to bring the attendance rate back up to 98%. How can this be done and quickly? Luckily, there is a plan.
The Incentive
To increase attendance, Singleton is offering an incentive. Starting now, if the entire student body has a 97% or higher attendance rate after six weeks, everyone gets two extended lunches. If, however, the student body fails to reach that goal, Singleton will give one extended lunch to any grade class that can meet the 97% or higher attendance rate. Singleton said he plans to continue this incentive until the end of this semester, giving students the opportunity for two extended lunches every six weeks.
Why is Attendance Important?
Attendance doesn’t only help students stay up-to-date in school and enhance learning, but it also benefits the school and school district in many ways. Attendance secures funding, grants and high scores in UIL and the Lone Star Cup. Those funds go directly to providing new equipment for athletics, supplies for classrooms and campus repairs.
