Varsity Football Team To Play Bi-District Game Against Springtown
The Raiders will play their first playoff game of the year tonight against Springtown in Snyder.
Going into tonight’s Bi-District game, the Raiders are hoping to gain some momentum after a loss to Hereford.
Here’s a season recap so far:
The Raiders started off their pre-district season with a tough loss to Andrews losing 7-11, but they did not let that define their season and they won four straight games against Clovis, Snyder, Wichita Falls and Palo Duro. The offense found their groove during this stretch and the defense came up big by allowing less than 20 points in three of those four games. In the sixth game of the season, the Raiders fell short to the Canadian Wildcats in their inaugural matchup against them. Mason Gilbert said the Wildcats came out early on them, and they were never able to come back. However, Gilbert added that the team never got down on themselves and stayed positive going into the final stretch of the season. Perhaps it was that mindset that led them to winning three huge district games in a row. The first one being against Dumas, where the defense forced a lot of turnovers and Amel Hadzisabic made a 48-yard field goal to ice the game. The following week they beat Pampa in a high scoring shootout led by an amazing performance by Nathan Baker. In the biggest game of the regular season, the Raiders beat their rivals, the Canyon Eagles, in dominating fashion to take home the “Goat.” In the final district game of the season Hereford shocked the Raiders, so they finished the season 7-3 and became Co-District Champions.
