In late June, Randall High School was awarded the Lone Star Cup, one of the most prestigious awards in the state of Texas. It honors success in UIL athletic, academic, and fine arts competitions throughout the school year.
“What an amazing year we had last year,” principal Steven Singleton said in his back to school video. “We had 19 programs represent Randall High School at the state level last year. That’s unheard of. That’s something that never happens.”
The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. Each winning school will receive the Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship. Randall’s trophy will be presented on Oct. 27.
According to Singleton, Randall consistently finishes in the top 10 every year, usually falling short of Argyle, but this is the first time the school has won.
