Randall High School is getting an updated mascot.
Before you stress it, “It is a Randall Raider, and we will be keeping the raider logo” cheer coach Tarran West said. Nothing about the logo will change it is just an “updated version of the outdated mascot,” said principal Steven Singleton.
After the school’s first mascot retired in 1995, the school found a replacement that only lasted about a year.
“It’s ugly,” Singleton said. “That one was put away in a closet somewhere.”
Since then, the school has not had a mascot. This mascot still has similar features to the original, although it does have things that make it different.
The new raider is being designed by professional mascot creators. The company the school is using, The Mascot Company, has worked on mascots for the NFL and MLB — meaning this mascot will be top tier.
West and Singleton would like to present the mascot to the school closer to homecoming. After that, the new Raider will be making an appearance at most games.
“I think having a mascot will get the kids attention,” volleyball player Natalie Cockrell said. “It could also keep them more involved when watching the games.”
