18 choir students were recently chosen as Texas Music Scholars by the Texas Music Educators Association. This is a huge honor for those who were recommended by our school’s choir director, Kelli Harter. These students will be recognized at the choir banquet on May 11.
“Students who are nominated for Texas Music Scholar have shown exceptional dedication to choir throughout the school year,” Harter said. “These students are involved in extra competitions throughout the year and strive for excellence with their work ethic and willingness to improve their performance and rehearsal skills at every level.”
These students have worked incredibly hard throughout their time in choir and have done nothing but pour themselves into their music. The Texas Music Scholar award recognizes students who have shown outstanding qualities in scholastic merit, musicianship, and citizenship in their school and community.
Senior Lauren Lichtie, a soprano, is one of the students who will receive the award. Litchtie has been in choir since elementary school and has a passion for music.
“Choir is so much more than just singing,” Lichtie said. “We are such a family. We grow in so many ways and it’s a blast. We work when it’s time to work, but when we also get to chill, it’s like having family time. It’s such a blessing in my life!”
Ashtyn Thompson, alto, is another senior who will be recognized and has been with the Randall choir since her freshman year.
“We make music together as a whole,” Thompson said. “No matter what our personal lives bring us, we leave everything at the door and make music with our fellow peers.”
