On Friday, Coach Leslie Broadhurst will be inducted into Randall’s Hall of Fame.
When Principal Steven Singleton first met Coach Broadhurst, he was a teacher at Randall who had just moved to the Texas Panhandle.
“I don’t think that my first impression of Coach Broadhurst would be any different from my impression now,” Singleton said. “He’s just a phenomenal man.”
Broadhurst coached at Randall High School for 36 years before he retired. In April, Randall renamed the gym in his honor.
Coach Trevor Johnson was Broadhurst’s assistant coach for the last few years. Johnson will now be stepping up into Broadhurst’s shoes.
“It’s going to be really really tough to follow in his footsteps,” Coach Trevor Johnson said. “I mean, he devoted his life to Randall basketball and that’s tough to follow.”
Broadhurst left a big legacy at Randall High School. Broadhurst had been the only head boys basketball coach Randall had ever had. He started the basketball team and carried them to many wins before the end of his career.
“His legacy extends into every fiber of what Randall High School is,” Singleton said. “He’s not just somebody that won the school’s first ever state championship, he’s not a coach who just had 700 wins. He’s somebody who helped shape the culture of our campus and what it means to be a Randall Raider.”
Broadhurst will forever be a legend at Randall not only for his coaching and wins but also for his love to everyone around him.
