The split.
Everyone at Randall and West Plains knows exactly what those two words mean. Half of Randall’s students went off to West Plains when it opened, and there has been what feels like an unspoken rivalry between the two schools ever since.
For the first time in three years, Randall’s football team will be playing West Plains for The Duke trophy this Friday.
Staff and students from both schools have well anticipated this game, and it is arguably one of our biggest ones yet.
“Though West Plains is a rival, more importantly, they are a good football team and we are going to have to play extremely well,” Coach Dan Sherwood said.
Sherwood has been known to push the boys to create a win, and currently, the Raiders have a 7-0 season record. But will this game be where we potentially break our winning streak?
“In my opinion, I think we have a great chance of winning,” senior and wide receiver Collin Miller said. “Our team seems to show more talent and wants the game more.”
Like the GOAT game where the Raiders play the Canyon Eagles, this game will be called the Crosstown Showdown. Randall will be competing for a trophy in the shape of a cowboy hat called The Duke.
“At the end of the day, I just want our students to be successful. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Duke trophy or the GOAT; we all want to be competitive in every game we play,” principal Steven Singleton said.
This game has had a lot of talk surrounding it, so show up and show out to support you’re Raider football team to take home a win!
