Steven Singleton announced Monday that he will be resigning as principal of Randall High School. After 20 years of working with CISD and eight years of being Randall’s principal, he has taken the position of Field Supervisor/Project Manager with Region 16.
Singleton sent out a statement on ParentSquare to the Randall community explaining his decision.
“While this next chapter is an exciting opportunity, leaving my Randall family is not easy,” Singleton said. “This school, and more importantly, this community, has meant so much to me.”
This news affected the Randall community in a significant way.
“I don’t think I could really put into words all he has done for this school, but I know he will be greatly missed,” soccer coach Aspen Connally said. “His leadership is unmatched, and his encouragement has always gone above and beyond.”
Staff and students describe Singleton as a compassionate leader.
“He is loved by our students, and our faculty and staff have always appreciated his leadership style,” tennis coach Darby Norman said. “We know that we are supported, yet not micromanaged. He will be sorely missed. Mr. Singleton was exactly what Randall needed in a principal, exactly when we needed him.”
Singleton started his career in education in 2006 as a world history teacher and a softball coach at Randall High School.
“Even though he was still learning how to teach the content, he gave 100% to his students and they absolutely loved him,” history teacher Cassi Unger said. “Twenty years later, that dedication hasn’t changed.”
While in the position of principal, the school has earned awards such as 14 UIL team state championships and back-to-back Lone Star Cup championships. He established a school culture of Raider pride and success.
“Mr. Singleton fought for the Lone Star Cup title and cheered students on every step of the way,” English teacher Callie Shipley said. “As he led by example, I watched students shift from talking negatively about our school to believing that we were truly the best place to be.”

English teacher Melissa Mata describes Singleton as “a Randall Raider’s biggest fan.” As a teacher and even more so as a principal, he is a champion for student success and involvement.
“If no one has ever seen how Singleton looks at his students at prom, they need to,” English teacher Rachel Huddleston said. “Watching him tear up and look like a proud dad as he watched a group of seniors celebrate at prom is one of my fondest memories. Without any words at all, his face expressed the depth of his pride and the heartfelt connection he has with his students.”
April 11 will be Singleton’s last official day. Associate Principal Travis Willard will be taking on the interim principal role until the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
“I’m excited but also a little nervous,” Willard said. “There’s a lot to get done until the end of the school year, and as someone who has never been responsible for doing those things, it puts a little pressure on me. Luckily, I know that I don’t have to do it alone. I know that Mr. Singleton is still around for a little bit, and we have great people in this school building.”
As far as a permanent new principal, a committee of Randall community members will evaluate the candidates and narrow them down to the top few candidates. Superintendent Darryl Flusche will ultimately decide on the final candidate. A survey was sent out on ParentSquare to staff and parents asking what qualities they want in a new principal, and it is due Friday.
“We need someone who understands our culture and will provide a smooth transition, who understands what Raider Pride is all about, and who will allow us to continue to experience the success we have enjoyed for many years,” Norman said.

Mr. Singleton is an incredible leader, teacher, coach and friend. He is the first to help in any given situation. I had the privilege of being his assistant softball coach, and I saw, first hand, his knowledge and love for the game. Steven Singleton has made an enormous, positive impact on Randall High School. He will be missed.
