After only 2 seasons with the Rangers, catcher and first baseman Mike Napoli signed on a 3 year, 39 million dollar deal with the Boston Red Sox last week, leaving Texas with a relatively average 2012 season after his exceptional offensive game the previous year.

Had Napoli had another season like 2011, he probably could have made a lot more green, but after this year’s injuries and time on the DL, Boston may have been taking a risk signing the catcher and first baseman. Napoli spent most of his time in Texas behind the plate, but is expected to play primarily first base for the Red Sox.

The Rangers will not receive a compensation pick for Napoli since the team decided not to make him a qualifying offer at season’s end.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see who Texas will pick up, seeing as the free-agent Josh Hamilton’s contract is up and 12 year player Michael Young leaving to Philadelphia.
