Football team bags first win in District
After winning their second District game of the season, the Raiders will be facing the undefeated Amarillo High Sandies Oct. 25 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium for their black-out game. The Raiders look to continue on their upwards ascent from their rocky start in district, losing 32-47 against Canyon, but recovering a victory over Palo Duro Thursday night.
The game began with a shaky start, with Randall losing the ball on fourth down on their first possession, but they got into their rhythm so well that as Amarillo Globe News sports writer Lee Passmore said, “Randall literally ran the formula to near perfection.”
The Dons received the kick and set up first down on their 49, and like the Raiders, lost it on 4th down.
The Raiders picked it up 1st and 10 on their 27, going all the way to score, gaining 73 yards in 11 plays.
PD ended the quarter on the 22, but an interception by Randall kept them from scoring.
The Raiders gained a first down on 43, and lost 4 yards, then furthering the gap 13-0, but not after they had the extra point rejected and recovered by the Dons, who then ran all the way back for what would have been their first TD of the night, had it not been called back for PD off-sides.
Randall got the ball back on the 10, and scored a 2-point conversion stretching further ahead 15-0.
From then on, it was a scoring spree. First PD went all the way back to score,15-6, then Randall scored again, taking the score to 22-6 and driving 67 yards in 4 plays.
PD received on the 28, and hit a first and 10 at midfield before Randall picked the pass and ran to the Don 43.
After another PD interception was called back, Randall got another second chance with second and 10 on the 43.
The Raiders made their way all the way down to the 23 with five seconds left in the half when they attempted a 36 yard field goal, which was rejected and run back by PD for an 80 yd TD, ending the half 22-13.
At the beginning of the third quarter,
The Dons received a first and 10 on their 30.
Randall got it back for a TD from the two yard line, keeping their lead up 29-13.
Palo Duro returned the kick to the 32 and ran 38 yards to the Raider 30, but lost it to fourth down.
Raiders received kick and gain 9 yards and at second and nine,call a time out. They were unable to score and lost possession to fourth down.
PD also lost to fourth down.
A face mask penalty was called on PD defense, and Randall went all the way to the 14 for first down.
