Mustang built atop Empire State Building
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, a group of engineers will build a 2015 Mustang on top of the Empire State Building. In 1965, Ford did the same thing to introduce the Mustang Convertible. This will symbolize the half-century mark for the iconic sports car.
To accomplish this, engineers had to cut the Mustang into sections and take the pieces up the elevator. The Empire State Building is too high for cranes to reach, and the observation deck where the car was placed is too narrow for a helicopter to drop it in, so the car had to be transported piece by piece up the elevator to the 86th floor.
Ford had to put much more thought into the stunt this time than it did in 1965. The new Mustang is much longer than the original, and the engineers only had six hours to complete the project.
The project was difficult and had kinks, but Ford made a true statement about the pride they have in their work.
