Nissan tests self-cleaning car
Car washes are expensive, and they are often a waste of time. After a car wash, it is difficult to avoid muddy puddles or standing water in the road, so your car usually ends up getting dirty soon after the wash. This wastes precious time and money.
Nissan is currently testing a prototype vehicle with a new paint that is said to make car washes a thing of the past. This new paint, called Ultra-Ever Dry, repels water and oil, maintaining a layer of air between the paint and whatever dirt may hit the car.
Representatives from Nissan say the paint has responded well to common use cases including rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water. The paint has also proven well in muddy or sloppy conditions on the road.
In the video, the Nissan, one half painted with the Ultra-Ever Dry paint, and the other half with normal paint, drives through mud, water and dirt. The camera angle shows the dirt and mud stick to the side with regular paint, and roll off the side with the special paint.
The next generation of car paint could be here, and car washes may become a thing of the past.
