Plastic surgery: beauty or beast?
In 2007, Americans spent $13 billion on 11.7 million cosmetic procedures. Plastic surgery is an increasingly popular thing to do in today’s society. There is a definite appeal to the thought of fixing your outer appearance to look exactly as you please, rather than forcing yourself on some insane diet or workout. But when exactly is it too far?
There are a number of women, and a few especially strange men, that have become addicted to plastic surgery. They spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on multiple procedures that were in no way necessary. These people have said they get a thrill of the thought of waking up and looking different.
It is said people who undergo plastic surgery are likely to have had psychological problems before going under the knife. The problems mainly include self-loathing which leads to a need for perfection. Perfection is one thing that does not commonly come out of these procedures. Mistakes are far too common in this business, at one time a third of nose jobs were trying to fix previous ones. It is evident in some of these surgery addicts, even natural flaws are more appealing than mistakes made under the knife.
