The number one movie that has brought in $50 million with the first week of opening in theaters was “Taken 2”. The new action movie starring Liam Neeson ties in with the last movie where Mills has killed one of his daughter’s kidnappers and the father of the kidnapper wants revenge from his son’s death. After Mills’ daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) and ex-wife Lennie (Famke Janssen) are left by Lennie’s husband Stuart, Mills plans to meet his family for a vacation in Istanbul, after he has just completed a security job. In a surprising arrival, Murad Hoxha, the leader of an Albanian mafia, takes the opportunity to get his payback on Mills. Mills must rescue Kim and Lennie from being taken hostage in Istanbul and show his fair share of action fighting scenes with it.
Reviews have stated that “Taken 2” is less engaging than the first, the character dynamics are less believable, and the action set pieces are less thrilling. The action scenes weren’t filmed well, making the viewer almost dizzy because of how it was moving and flashing from different angles. “Taken” is said to have had a steady unfolding mystery with action pieces that were more realistic and put together well. Viewers, who thought Grace was too old to play the innocent teenager, will have a difficult time rectifying her story in this movie. The actress is now 29 but plays the role of the teenage daughter of Mills who is still trying to live a “normal life” from her experience in “Taken.” In all honesty I found the movie was focused on Kim and how she tries being a big girl while her father tells her what she needs to do. With driving lessons and her first serious boyfriend, Kim and her father add a fresh new sequence to the “One -Man-Army” approach of the first movie. With all the screen time that is dedicated to Kim, viewers will quickly be annoyed by the films effort to utilize Grace. The way Mills figured out where he was, and explained to Kim what to do was more intense because it makes the viewer wonder if they themselves would even remember what to do and where to go exactly. It was less appealing than the first movie but in all wasn’t bad. Viewers expected to see Neeson in action but saw more of Kim. Viewers got a taste of how close the family wanted to be and is at the end compared to the first movie where Mills and his now ex-wife were separated and Lennie was happy with someone else. Mills accepts his daughter’s, wants to be “normal” again and agrees to let her have more freedom.
