Millions of fans have long-awaited a feature-length film based on the popular video game “Minecraft.” Following the success of other video game movie adaptations such as “Sonic,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” and “Super Mario Brothers,” many studios have tried to get a piece of the pie that is video game fans. Many adaptations have failed; a big name being the Borderlands movie. Now, Minecraft fans worry the same thing will happen to their beloved Minecraft movie.

Jack Black, who appeared in the Borderlands movie, played a part in the revival of Minecraft in 2020 when he streamed with PewDiePie, so it seemed like he’d put effort into his character. In the trailer, however, his outfit is subpar and seems lazy. His outfit does not match the well-known character Steve. The only known defining feature is the blue shirt. Jack Black is also too short to be playing a tall character such as Steve. Jason Momoa’s outfit in this movie is odd as well. His long wig with a pink leather jacket makes no sense and adds nothing.

The live-action characters in a fully animated movie made some viewers uncomfortable. Minecraft is supposed to be an animated game with a cartoony aspect. The live-action in an animated movie throws off the feel of the trailer and makes it off-putting. The way it’s animated also turns off viewers, such as the llama and pink sheep that look deplorable.

Despite all of the backlash from fans over the trailer, I cannot wait for the full release of the Minecraft movie. The trailer had me laughing the entire time. It looks so bad that it looks amazing. It has the chance to be a huge upset, but I have faith that the Minecraft movie will end up being one of the funniest movies of 2025.
